Pain-Free, Stress-Free Dentist

The dental experience has changed drastically in recent years due to new technology. The fear, stress and anticipation of pain related to a visit to the dentist have been virtually eliminated. The patient benefits from modern techniques that enable the dentist to provide pain-free, less time consuming services in fewer visits. Modern instruments and something as simple and natural as relaxation techniques are changing the way we look at a dental visit. Whiter, straight teeth are easier to achieve than ever before. With appearance becoming more directly linked to success, taking care of the look and health of our smile is more important than ever.

Cosmetic dentistry is all the rage, from teeth whitening to a full smile makeover. Porcelain laminate veneers on yellowed teeth, tooth colored fillings and lifelike crowns are all readily accessible to the average consumer. The perfect smile is now affordable and achievable due to fresh new approaches and expertise. Through experience and newer technology dentists can provide an array of choices to keep the mouth healthy and attractive. Silver fillings which were the standard to fill cavities with in the past, eventually cause weakening of the teeth, leading to cracking and breaking. Today, tooth-colored composite fillings are used. The use of composite fillings strengthens teeth, is safe and results in more natural looking teeth. Porcelain is also used as a durable and more realistic looking alternative.

When caps or a bridge is necessary to replace missing teeth, a dentist and his patient have more options these days. Bridges can be made of new materials that are longer lasting and more natural looking. When a full set of teeth needs to be replaced, today dentures can be made far more life-like and more comfortable than ever before. For some people, implants can be used to help anchor replacement teeth and give a person more security and a better ability to eat anything they want.

Initial oral exams can now be far more sophisticated. A dentist should no longer just check the teeth. A thorough examination of the gums, cheeks, and tongue can be helpful in detecting possible early warning signs of oral cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes and even heart disease. Some dentists are using a simple and painless brush biopsy for sores that don’t go away. A dentist can also check for an adequate amount of saliva. Lack of saliva can cause a dry mouth leading to gum disease, and the lack of moisture can contribute to cavity formation. Natural saliva is an individual’s best natural cleanser.

In addition to the advanced technology with specific techniques, such as dental drills with fiberoptic lighting built in, the entire dental experience has changed. Digital photos taken with a camera inside the mouth can more readily reveal a potential problem. Digitally enhanced photos can simulate a new look for a consumer. The Internet makes it possible for the consumer to view before and after pictures of work done on other patients. Pain-free, stress-free, less time and less visits — there is nothing stopping the public from having the smile they always dreamed of or maybe once had.
